FAQ

What kind of eating disorders do you treat?

My focus is on healing relationships with food, body, and movement. While some individuals may meet clear criteria for anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder, many others do not. The most common eating disorder is called 'other specified feeding or eating disorder'. This majority of people don't fit the clean lines of the major diagnoses, but that does not correlate with severity or importance of the struggle. In my practice I treat any individual who is interested in strengthening their relationship with food and body and finding greater peace and freedom in these areas.

Do I really qualify to seek help?

Yes. I treat all levels and nearly all types of eating disorders. Many people worry that they don't 'deserve' to seek help. This could be because they don't believe they meet classic criteria for an eating disorder, because there are people struggling more than they are, because it's not "that bad", or because they eat "too much". For many reasons, it is very challenging work to heal our relationships with food and body, and therapy from a specialized clinician can be critical in the ability to move toward food and body freedom. If you are unhappy with these areas of your life, then you deserve the support and guidance that it takes to heal.

How long is each session and how often will we meet?

A standard session length is just under one hour. At the initial appointment, we will discuss session frequency and create a plan together. I often recommend that we begin by meeting weekly, as it allows us to get to know one another and to better facilitate movement toward your goals. As progress is made, we may step down to biweekly sessions. If finances are a barrier for you, we can explore together how often you are able to meet.

What is your fee for therapy?

  • Initial intake appointment: $200

  • Subsequent therapy appointments: $160

If you are planning to use your insurance, fees may be slightly different based on the negotiated rate with your specific insurance company.

What types of payment and insurance do you accept?

For private pay or payment of deductible/co-pays, I accept personal check or transfer via Zelle. Payment is typically expected at the time of the session. Arrangements for biweekly or monthly payments can be made.

I am currently a participating provider for Anthem/BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, IU Health, and United Health Plans. For any other insurance policy, I would be considered an out-of-network provider. In these instances, I can provide a receipt for payment that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for your treatment. Prior to beginning sessions, I strongly recommend that you contact your insurance provider to verify your benefits.

How do I make an appointment?

If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, it is easiest to begin by reaching out via email to drchristyduffy@gmail.com. From there, we will arrange a time to talk briefly by phone to assess goodness of fit prior to scheduling an appointment.

What is your cancellation and missed session policy?

You are financially responsible for sessions that you schedule. Cancellations must be made at least 24-hours prior to a scheduled appointment. Missed appointments and appointments canceled less than 24-hours in advance will be charged at my full rate of $160. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you.
