Under the Umbrella, LLC

Welcome! If you or someone you love is struggling with an eating related concern, finding qualified treatment providers is an important and sometimes difficult step toward recovery. Eating disorders and disordered eating impact individuals psychologically, physically, and nutritionally. Because of this, treatment may be needed from professionals in each of these specialties - this can include a psychologist, dietitian, psychiatrist, and exercise specialist. At Under the Umbrella, I focus on a multidisciplinary approach with a collaborative group of professionals in the community specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and disordered eating.

If you do not find the information that you are looking for, or have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact Christy Duffy, PhD at drchristyduffy@gmail.com.

Multidisciplinary treatment for eating disorders and eating or body-related concerns

What if you viewed chronic over eating or under eating not as a disorder, sickness, condition, character weakness, tragic flaw, or illness, but as your very best effort to deal with your life? What if eating or denying yourself food has been nothing more than a misguided attempt to take care of yourself? What if you didn’t look at disordered eating as your worst problem, but as your best solution to date?

There’s a psychological principle that maintains that you’re always doing the best you can. Even when you’re doing poorly, the principle holds true. Moving toward or away from food has somehow turned into a major way that you’ve learned to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. It’s neither healthy nor affective, but it’s the best approach you’ve found to date.
